John Flak, Photographer

John Flak is a photographer, stage manager, teacher, and arts administrator, who has worked with famous photographers such as David Plowden and R. Clarke-Davis and actors such as Gary Sinise and John Mahoney. From Terre Haute, Indiana, John has photographed his way across the Midwest, Death Valley, Hudson River Valley, and Philadelphia. Since 1997, John has photographed theatre productions for Philadelphia Theatre Workshop, 1812 Productions, Abington Friends School, Loyola University, Northwestern University, and the Goodman Theatre, among others. He has shown his work in exhibitions at the Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago Historical Society, and the James M. Hunt Gallery. His work has been published in The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Weekly, the Chicago Tribune, and the Chicago Reader, as well as many others. Currently, he lives in Elkins Park, with his wife, two girls, and collection of antique cameras. His Surfaces, born from his attention to abstract beauty, started in Philadelphia and now include works from New York, San Francisco, Portland, Chicago, among other places.
